L399 Elegant Zebra Plecos are a rare and visually stunning bottom-dweller, prized for their bold black-and-white striping and graceful fins.  Sold young, healthy and eating voraciously.  These fish are approximately 1.5+ inches in size.  Notice how their tails are long and flowing.

Native to the Rio Tapajós in Brazil, Hypancistrus sp. L399 reaches an adult size of 3.5–4 inches (9–10 cm) and can live 10–15 years with proper care Planted Aquaria. These plecos thrive in warm, soft, and oxygen-rich water, preferring temperatures between 79–86°F (26–30°C) and a pH of 6.2–7.2. Their sleek, horizontal zebra pattern and elegant fin structure make them a standout in planted or biotope-style aquariums. Though shy and mostly nocturnal, they add depth and intrigue to the tank, especially when provided with driftwood, caves, and subdued lighting. L399s are omnivores with a strong preference for protein-rich foods, including sinking carnivore pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and Repashy blends like Bottom Scratcher. Peaceful but mildly territorial toward other bottom-dwellers, they do best with small, non-aggressive tankmates. Aquarists value L399s not only for their beauty but also for their calm demeanor and compatibility with well-maintained community setups.
