Sterbai Corydoras are peaceful, beautifully patterned bottom-dwellers that add charm and activity to any freshwater aquarium.
The Corydoras sterbai, native to the Guaporé River region in South America, is a small armored catfish known for its striking appearance and sociable nature. Adults typically reach 2.5 inches in length, with some rare specimens growing up to 4 inches. Their bodies are adorned with bold white spots over a dark base, and their fins feature delicate striping, giving them a refined, speckled look. These fish thrive in groups of six or more, displaying playful shoaling behavior that brings life to the lower levels of the tank. Ideal water parameters include a temperature range of 72–81°F (22–27°C), pH between 7.0–8.0, and hardness of 5–19 dGH. Sterbai Corys are omnivorous scavengers, enjoying a varied diet of sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and blanched vegetables. Their gentle temperament, long lifespan of 15–20 years, and compatibility with most peaceful tankmates make them a favorite among aquarists seeking both beauty and reliability in their aquatic setups.
These fish are best kept in groups of 6 or more as they do best in a small shoal and enjoy each other's company.
